Alexandra Palace
Alexandra Palace opened in 1873 as a public entertainment hall on a hilltop in north London, and was quickly rebuilt after fire destroyed it within weeks. From its mast the BBC broadcast the world's first regular high-definition television service in 1936, earning it the nickname 'the birthplace of television'.
