Hampton Court Palace was built by Cardinal Wolsey from 1515 and taken over by Henry VIII, who made it one of the most lavish Tudor palaces in England. A later baroque range added for William III and Mary II gives the palace its dual character of red-brick Tudor and English baroque, set in famous riverside gardens with a maze.
