Leadenhall Market occupies a site that has hosted trading since Roman times, on the spot of London's ancient basilica and forum. Its ornate wrought-iron and glass roof, designed by Sir Horace Jones, dates from 1881 and covers a covered arcade of shops in the heart of the City.
