Piccadilly Circus was created in 1819 where Regent Street meets Piccadilly, and became a busy West End junction as London's road network grew. Its illuminated advertising signs first appeared in the early 1900s and, with the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain topped by the winged 'Eros', make it one of London's best-known meeting points.
