Tate Modern

Tate Modern occupies the former Bankside Power Station, a brick building with a single tall chimney designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott and built in stages from 1947. Converted by architects Herzog & de Meuron, it opened as Britain's national gallery of modern art in 2000, with its vast Turbine Hall as the entrance.
