The Shard
The Shard is western Europe's tallest building, a 310-metre spire of angled glass designed by Renzo Piano and completed in 2012. It rises straight out of London Bridge station on the site of the former Southwark Towers, its tapering facets meant to echo the masts of ships that once crowded the Thames.
