Trafalgar Square & The National Gallery
Trafalgar Square was laid out in the 1830s and 1840s to designs by Charles Barry, commemorating the 1805 naval victory at Trafalgar. Along its north side stands the National Gallery, opened in 1838, whose collection of Western European paintings dates from the 13th to the 20th centuries.
